Kinne throws 2 TDS, Tulsa beats UTEP 31-28

G.J. Kinne threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns and Tulsa beat UTEP 31-28 Saturday.

The Golden Hurricane (8-3, 5-2) must win its final game against Southern Mississippi and hope Southern Methodist loses at East Carolina to win the Conference USA West Division title and advance to the league championship.

Alex Singleton bulled in from 1 yard out with 4:00 left in the third quarter to put Tulsa ahead 31-28, capping a 36-yard drive set up by a 62-yard kickoff return by Damaris Johnson, who finished with six catches for 146 yards.

Johnson, with two returns for 87 yards, became the NCAA record holder in kickoff return yardage with 3,141 yards, besting the previous record of 3,118 yards by Brandon West of Western Michigan (2006-09).

UTEP got 155 yards rushing and three touchdowns by Joe Banyard.
