Johnson leads Georgetown in 43-3 win over Marist
WASHINGTON (AP) — Gunther Johnson ran for two touchdowns and threw for one, Joshua Thomas caught a touchdown pass and scored on a run and Georgetown cashed in on turnovers to beat Marist 43-3 in its home opener on Saturday.
Herman Moultrie III gained 103 yards on 20 carries as the Hoyas amassed 424 total yards to Marist's 244. The Hoyas converted two-of-four turnovers — a fumble and an interception — into scores.
Johnson opened the scoring on a 17-yard run before Thomas caught a 14-yard TD pass from Joseph Burnell, then scored on a 1-yard run to make it 22-3 at halftime. The Hoyas scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter on Johnson's 32-yard run, Moultrie's 1-yard run and Johnson's 30-yard pass to Michael Dereus.
Marquis Parris recovered the fumble that led to Thomas' scoring run and Delano Salgado's pick of Austin Day's pass led to Johnson's third quarter TD catch.
Day was 12 of 19 for 149 yards for Marist, which scored on Luke Paladino's 36-yard field goal in the second quarter.
