Devan James rushed for 103 yards on 22 carries and Carlton Jackson threw two touchdown passes to lead Morgan State to a 14-7 victory over Howard on Thursday night.
Morgan State (5-1, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) is off to its best start in 30 years. The Bears, however, continued to struggle offensively and converted just two of 14 third-down conversions, a statistic they were already ranked last in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Howard (2-4, 0-3) has lost five consecutive games to the Bears by a total of 23 points.
Morgan State opened the scoring on a 31-yard pass from Jackson to Edwin Baptiste with 4:05 left in the first quarter. The drive started on Howard's 31 when the Bears thwarted a fake punt on fourth-and-8.
