(STATS) - Not being in violation of Jacksonville State University's student code of conduct following his recent arrest was a positive for FCS All-America quarterback Eli Jenkins.
Jenkins, 21, still faces a March 1 court date in Alabama and the charge of third-degree domestic violence following his Jan. 20 arrest on campus because of an argument with a 22-year-old woman. The charge is a class-A misdemeanor offense and the definition of it can be wide-ranging.
JSU determined recently in its internal investigation that Jenkins did not violate the school's code of conduct. The arrest report from the university's police department said he was sober, unarmed, uninjured and did not resist arrest.
"We're dealing with it in-house, the way we're dealing with that situation. We're just moving forward," Gamecocks coach John Grass said Tuesday.
It remains possible Jenkins could be disciplined within the football program. His arrest occurred 11 days after the Gamecocks lost 37-10 to North Dakota State in the FCS national championship game in Frisco, Texas.
Jenkins, from Birmingham, just completed his redshirt junior season. Jacksonville State went 13-2 and won the Ohio Valley Conference title as he captured the conference's offensive player of the year award and was the STATS FCS All-America first-team quarterback.
