Alabama quarterback Star Jackson has transferred to Georgia State, which started a new football program and will begin play this fall.
Jackson got in five games last season for the Crimson Tide as a redshirt freshman but didn't figure to get much playing time for the defending national champions. He'll have a chance to earn the starting job with the Panthers, who are set to begin their first season in the NCAA Championship Subdivision.
Since Georgia State is in a lower division than Alabama, Jackson will not have to sit out a season. The Panthers, coached by Bill Curry, will travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium to face the Tide on Nov. 20.
