Ivy League's top ref pokes fun at Brady, Deflategate
BOSTON (AP) Even the Ivy Leaguers are making fun of Deflategate.
The conference's head of referees said on a media conference call on Tuesday that he isn't worried about any teams tampering with the inflation of footballs. Ivy coordinator of football officials Jim Maconaghy joked with reporters: ''We've hired Tom Brady as our consultant.''
Brady was suspended four games for what the NFL says was a scheme to provide underinflated footballs for the AFC championship game in January. He has appealed all the way to federal court.
Maconaghy says he thinks the league doesn't actually have to worry about tampering, because its officials hold onto the footballs until right before the kickoff. The NFL allowed the home team to prepare and then deliver the footballs to the field before the game.
