Is LSU in the market for a transfer quarterback?

Published Jan. 4, 2016 3:57 p.m. ET

The graduate transfer rule has been all the rage in the recent climate of college football.

In particular, the quarterback position has been an integral focus. Teams needing a quick-fix at the signal-caller position -- or ones needing to get over the proverbial hump -- are particularly interested in veteran transfer options.

One of those players is Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight.

With Baker Mayfield firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback in Norman, Knight will look to play his senior year elsewhere.

Via a report from The Times-Picayune, Knight has been in contact with the LSU staff. He's said to be also considering the likes of Texas A&M and Auburn.

The fact LSU is reaching out to Knight could signal a lack of confidence in regards to the other quarterback options on the roster. Brandon Harris will return as a junior, and former Purdue transfer Danny Etling will also be eligible.

In his career, Knight has thrown for 3,424 yards and 25 touchdowns. As a freshman, Knight led the Sooners to a 45-31 upset victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. He threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns in the win.

Surely, this will appeal to those in Baton Rouge.
