Injuries to kickers forcing McElwain into a familiar audible
Florida head coach Jim McElwain has seen this script before.
With injuries to kickers Jorge Powell and Austin Hardin, McElwain has enlisted the help of the student body in the form of a tryout. Florida will be looking to secure a kicker ahead of its Oct. 31 clash against rival Georgia.
Ironically enough, McElwain's been involved in a similar situation. He held an open tryout for a kicker at his previous institution, Colorado State. Eventual kicker Jared Roberts was named "kicker" by McElwain and the entire team. He went on to become an all-conference performer throughout his collegiate career.
Florida's kickers Powell and Hardin have combined to go 5-of-9 on the year. Maybe McElwain will luck out and find another dynamic walk-on kicking option?
