Hokies Release Injury Report Ahead of Pittsburgh Match-Up

The injury report does not look quite as daunting for the Hokies as they prepare to battle Pittsburgh at Heinz Field

The Virginia Tech Hokies are coming off of a resounding 37-16 victory over the Miami Hurricanes last Thursday night in Blacksburg, a game in which the Hokies’ injured defensive front was able to rack up a season-high eight sacks against a porous Miami offensive line.

As the team readies themselves for another Thursday night tilt on the road at Pittsburgh, where they haven’t won a true road game since 1999 and where they have never won at Heinz Field (0-4), they appear to be much healthier on the defensive front than they were a week ago against Miami.

Defensive end Ken Ekanem, who missed the game against the Hurricanes with an upper extremity injury, is now listed as probable for the Hokies heading into Thursday night.

The man who lines up opposite of Ken Ekanem, defensive end Vinny Mihota, is also on the injury report for the first time with a shoulder injury. However, it does not appear to be serious as he is also listed as probable for the game against Pitt.

Defensive tackle Nigel Williams, who like Ekanem, missed last week’s Miami game with a sprained ankle suffered in the Syracuse game, is listed as questionable, although he has made strides throughout the week and has been a participant in practice. There seems to be a pretty decent shot that he will suit up and play as well.

However, for some of the reserves, the news is not so optimistic. Running back Shai McKenzie, who missed last week’s game with a lower body injury, is on the injury report as doubtful for this week’s tilt, while defensive back Jimmie Taylor has been ruled out for Thursday night with a hand injury.

The Hokies will take the field at 7 PM ET on Thursday night, with the game being televised nationally on ESPN.
