Green: Return home is 'going to be crazy'
ATHENS, Ga. - A.J. Green packed plenty of production into a little more than a quarter of play Saturday, leaving observers coming up with ways to gush about the Georgia junior.
"They've got probably the best player in college football playing receiver," said Tennessee coach Derek Dooley, whose Volunteers visit Georgia on Saturday.
"You saw just his presence his first game back. The guy's unbelievable. That's the No. 1 challenge."
Green had seven catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns and took an end-around 40 yards last Saturday in a 29-27 loss at Colorado. All of that yardage came in the second quarter and the first 3:45 of the third quarter, before he left the game with cramps that sidelined him until the fourth quarter.
His first catch since returning from a four-game NCAA suspension came when he out-jumped a defender and made a one-handed touchdown grab with his left hand.
"I think that's the best, yeah," Green said when asked where the catch ranks among the 116 in his Georgia career. "That's the best one by far."
Georgia's coaches and players are accustomed to Green making extraordinary plays look ordinary.
"He's made better ones," receiver Tavarres King said. "He caught it behind his back before the game. That's the best catch I've ever seen. Behind the back? Oh, that thing was sweet."
"You see it in practice all the time," offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said. "That's the thing. He makes catches like that all the time on a routine basis. We'll throw balls behind him, low, high. He's just very fluid in how he just runs and catches it."
At long last, Green's 2010 home debut is two days away, against the Volunteers.
"I'm ready to get back in that stadium," Green said. "It's going to be crazy."
