D.J. Williams threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Mario Louis in overtime to give Grambling State a 30-24 win over winless Mississippi Valley State Saturday in a Southwestern Athletic Conference thriller.
The Delta Devils (0-8, 0-7) had rallied to send the game into overtime on Garrick Jones' 3-yard scoring run as time expired in regulation. That concluded a run of 17 unanswered points. But it did not take Grambling (3-4, 2-3) long to respond.
Mississippi Valley's Carlos Sanchez, who'd kicked a field goal and two extra points during that 17-0 run, missed a 37-yard field goal attempt on the Delta Devils' first possession in overtime. Grambling capitalized immediately. After Dawrence Roberts, whose 136 rushing yards included an 87-yarder, ran for 10 yards, Williams found Louis for the game-winning touchdown. Earlier, Louis had caught two touchdown passes from starting quarterback Frank Rivers.
