German lifts Tennessee State by Austin Peay 31-27

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Michael German threw for 395 yards and four touchdowns, the last a 5-yarder to Isaiah Freeman with 34 seconds left, as Tennessee State rallied to beat Austin Peay 31-27 on Saturday.

The Tigers (5-6, 2-5 Ohio Valley Conference) overcame three turnovers and 15 penalties for 167 yards to end a five-game losing streak.

German completed 30 of 46 passes, including touchdowns of 58, 24 and 4 yards to Weldon Garlington in the second half after falling behind 17-3. Garlington had eight receptions for 143 yards and German became the school leader in completions (627).

The winning drive covered 50 yards in 2:11 after a short punt, capped when Freeman hauled in a short slant and dragged a defender over the goal line.

The Governors (1-9, 1-5), who were penalized a timeout in each quarter because their special camouflage uniforms had the nicknames of nearby Ft. Campbell units on the back.
