Georgia cornerback suspended 2 games
Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings has received a two-game suspension following his arrest on a domestic violence charge.
One of 10 defensive starters returning for the Bulldogs next season, Commings will miss the Sept. 1 opener against Buffalo in Athens and the first Southeastern Conference game the following week, when Georgia hits the road to face league newcomer Missouri.
University police say the senior was arrested Jan. 21 after he struck his girlfriend in the face on a street corner in downtown Athens. Coach Mark Richt called any arrest ''a matter of serious concern'' before handing down the suspension Wednesday.
According to police, bystanders saw Commings in a confrontation with the woman at about 1 a.m., separated them, then flagged down a police officer for help.
