Gardner-Webb holds on for 34-33 OT win over Monmouth

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) Tyrell Maxwell accounted for 267 yards rushing and passing and ran for a score, and Monmouth's failed two-point conversion in overtime gave Gardner-Webb a 34-33 win on Saturday.

The conversion after Jayln Cagle's 5-yard TD run provided the winning score for Gardner-Webb (4-7, 2-3 Big South).

In its overtime possession, Lavon Chaney scored from a yard out for Monmouth (5-6, 1-4) but the pass for two was incomplete.

Chaney scored from 6-yards out with 4:32 left in regulation to give the Hawks a 27-20 lead. But Gardner-Webb marched 61 yards in 10 plays and Khalil Lewis' 7-yard run knotted the game at 27. Lewis carried 22 times for 91 yards and two scores.

Maxwell was 16-for-22 passing for 155 yards and had 22 carries for 112 yards.

Bahar threw for 241 yards a TD and an interception for Monmouth. Chaney had 21 carried for 150 yards and two scores.
