COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) South Carolina quarterback Connor Mitch will miss four-to-six weeks with a separated shoulder and a badly bruised hip.

Coach Steve Spurrier said Mitch will be in the hospital for the next day or two as doctors fight an infection that developed from a significant hip bruise suffered in South Carolina's win over North Carolina on Sept. 3. Mitch also hurt his right shoulder diving on a fumble in the second quarter in a 26-22 loss to Kentucky on Saturday night.

Perry Orth replaced Mitch against the Wildcats, and Spurrier said Orth will get the start when the Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) face No. 7 Georgia (2-0, 1-0) this week. Lorenzo Nunez and Michael Scarnecchia will back up Orth.

Mitch missed two practices last week, receiving treatment for his hip bruise.
