Last week it was reported that Florida State freshman quarterback De’Andre Johnson had been suspended from the team indefinitely. At the time it was reported that Johnson had allegedly punched a female FSU student in the face for cutting him in line.

On Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported that the State Attorney’s office officially charged Johnson with the crime.

"State attorney's office charged De'Andre Johnson with misdemeanor battery after reviewing video of incident from bar security cameras," Schlabach writes on Twitter.

After reviewing the evidence, there was apparently enough on the security footage to warrant charges being brought up against Johnson. That certainly does not sound good for the young quarterback. In the state of Florida, misdemeanor battery charges can carry a sentence up to one year in jail or 12 months probation, as well as a $1,000 fine.

WCTV.tv has provided additional details related to the incident:

Tallahassee police say the woman was ordering a drink at Yianni’s Nightclub around 11:30 p.m. on June 24th when she felt De’Andre Johnson pushing her from behind.

When the woman raised her arm to stop Johnson from pushing her, he grabbed her arm while and continued to push, according to police. The woman told police she raised her knee to Johnson’s midsection to shove him away from her and attempted to strike him with her fist to get him to release his grasp.

Police say Johnson then punched her on the left side of her face before they were separated.

The woman suffered bruising under her left eye, swelling to her cheek and upper lip, and a small cut near the bridge of her nose.

Roster-wise it’s not a huge blow to the Seminoles, but it’s also something the program doesn’t want to deal with, especially after the numerous off-the-filed issues involving Jameis Winston. Johnson was expected to be third string, or lower, on the depth chart. Sean Maguire and Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson will battle for the starting spot.
