FSU football may have had a disappointing season compared to preseason expectations. But several players had outstanding seasons.

FSU football had veteran leadership at some key areas this season, but also had very inexperienced players in other places.

A mixture of the two have found their way onto ESPN’s College Football Top 50 Players List.

The following players were recognized by 10 writers:

Dalvin Cook checked in as the highest rated FSU player, but was the second running back listed behind Texas’s D’onta Foreman.

That’s absurd and you can read why here.

Cook is the best running back in all of college football, and helped FSU navigate one of the toughest schedules in 2016. He put up monster numbers against great defenses while also being more versatile in the passing game than Foreman.

DeMarcus Walker had a career year in 2016 after deciding to come back to FSU for his senior season. It was the right move as he increased his career high sack total from last season by 4.5 and had more tackles for loss than last season.

Walker also had huge players during the season, notably blocking Miami’s extra point attempt to seal the one point victory on the road.

He’s third on FSU’s all-time sack list and was the second defensive end listed in these rankings.

Tarvarus McFadden started the season off inconsistent, giving up big plays and rebounding and excellent play.

However, he became one of FSU’s best defenders over the season and is tied for the national lead with eight interceptions. He’s also been awarded the Jake Tatum Award which is given to the nations best defensive back.

    Thoughts

FSU Football will lose both Cook and Walker to the NFL Draft next spring. However, having McFadden to come back next season will help solidify the FSU defensive secondary.

That area was one of the biggest question marks in the early part of 2016. McFadden combined with the return of Derwin James should help anchor things on the back-end.

Congrats to these FSU football players.
