Force off the edge: Alex McCalister wins SEC Defensive Player of the Week award

Florida clinched the SEC East Division this past weekend versus Vanderbilt, in large part due to its defense.

The Gators held the Commodores to only 175 yards of offense. Vanderbilt seemingly couldn't move the football -- and outside of a 74-yard touchdown run from running back Ralph Webb -- looked downright helpless.
Florida defensive end Alex McCalister was a big reason for the Vanderbilt struggles on the offensive side of the ball. The junior out of North Carolina finished the game with 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. He was explosive off of the edge, and seemingly lived in the backfield on both passing and running situations.
McCalister's consistency throughout the year has been a welcomed sight for head coach Jim McElwain's team. He's second on the team in tackles for loss (9.5) and leads the team in sacks (6.5) and quarterback hurries (7).
