For a day, everything was right with Charlie Strong and Texas AD Mike Perrin
With Charlie Strong firmly on the hot seat, every Saturday has become a referendum on the coach and his team, and Strong's long-term staying power in Austin.
But for at least one day, Strong got the doubters off his back. On Saturday, the Longhorns stunned Baylor, 35-34, as Trent Domingue hit a 39-yard field goal to clinch the win with just 46 seconds to go.
The victory was huge for Strong, who continues to try and make a case that he is the right man for the Texas job. And he doubled-down on that sentiment in the postgame press conference.
There, he made a very strong (no pun intended) statement about the program, shared courtesy of this tweet from the Austin-American Statesman:
As Davis alludes to, it is a defiant stance by Strong. But it's justifiable considering what everyone in the media has said about him over the past few weeks. At 4-4, Texas has a lot of its season left, even if things aren't perfect right now.
And in a bit of good news, it appears as though Strong -- at least for one day -- has the support of his athletic director Mike Perrin.
Perrin can be seen in a video below chanting "Char-lie," "Char-lie" as Strong left the field Saturday evening.
And then Perrin shared this picture.
What does it all mean?
Who knows.
But it can't be a bad thing for a coach who needs any kind of positive momentum.
