Florida State short-handed at first scrimmage

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher says running back Ryan Green recently underwent shoulder surgery and is out the rest of spring practice.

Florida State had already lost freshman Dalvin Cook, the 2013 Florida Mr. Football, to a shoulder injury. That leaves projected starter Karlos Williams, a junior, and sophomore Mario Pender as the scholarship running backs available. Fisher added Pender may have pulled a hamstring during the team's first scrimmage Monday.

Green ran for 163 yards and one touchdown as a freshman last season. The Seminoles are already replacing running backs Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr., who declared early for the NFL draft.

Fisher was not thrilled with the scrimmage, calling it inconsistent on both sides of the ball.
