Florida should be on upset-alert against South Carolina this weekend
When looking at the South Carolina-Florida game this weekend, there are some reasons to believe the Gators need to be on high-alert in this contest.
For one, Jim McElwain's team clinched the SEC East Division crown with an emotional, hard-fought victory over Vanderbilt. Florida could theoretically lose the remainder of its regular-season schedule -- and still play in Atlanta for the conference title.
Playing a 3-6 South Carolina team on the road in an early afternoon contest could be interesting. With the division title already in hand, will the motivation to play be an issue?
Despite the 3-6 overall record, the Gamecocks have shown signs of life recently. Quarterback Perry Orth is playing at a high level, and the skill position duo of running back Brandon Wilds and receiver Pharoh Cooper is one of the better ones in the entire conference.
Conversely, Florida's offense struggled immensely last week. If it turns the ball over with considerable frequency as it did versus Vanderbilt, McElwain's team could be in trouble.
Couple that with the fact potentially three key defensive starters may be out for the Gators, and this contest might not be the walk in the park many expect it to be.
