FCS Top 25: JMU runs past Maine
(STATS) - Khalid Adullah and Cardon Johnson share carries in the James Madison backfield, but they're adept at making the most of them.
Both running backs had long touchdown runs Saturday as the No. 11 Dukes ran past Maine 31-20 in the CAA Football opener for both teams in Orono, Maine.
Abdullah carried the ball 22 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns, including an 85-yarder, and Johnson finished with 110 yards on 13 carries, including a 52-yard TD. Johnson's score came on the fourth-quarter play following a Raven Greene interception - JMU's third of the second half against Maine quarterback Dan Collins.
Johnson and Abdullah have combined to average 6.4 yards per carry while gaining 851 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground this season.
James Madison (3-1, 1-0), under first-year coach Mike Houston, rebounded from a 56-28 loss at North Carolina. Maine (0-3, 0-1) is seeking its first win under coach Joe Harasymiak, at 30 the youngest Division I head coach.
Trailing 20-17 in the fourth quarter, James Madison went ahead for good on quarterback Bryan Schor's 19-yard touchdown pass to John Miller with 11:31 remaining.
