Former Oklahoma State football coach Jim Stanley has died at age 77.

OSU spokesman Kevin Klintworth says Stanley died from cancer Thursday in Arizona.

Stanley was head coach at OSU from 1973-78 and led the Cowboys to a 35-31-2 record and to a share of the Big Eight title and a Tangerine Bowl victory in 1976. He also served as the OSU defensive coordinator from 1963-68 and again in 1972 before being named head coach.

A football autographed by the 2011 Big 12 champion Oklahoma State team was presented to Stanley earlier this month when the team was in Arizona to play in the Fiesta Bowl.
