Doug Williams returning to Grambling
Doug Williams is returning to Grambling for a second coaching stint
The Super Bowl XXII MVP and former Tigers star quarterback was previously the general manager of the United Football League's Virginia Destroyers.
“I was looking forward to working with the Destroyers, but this is a great opportunity for me and it is very rare that a father gets to coach his son at the college football level,” said Williams in a UFL press release. “ I went to school there, I coached there, and now I have a great opportunity to coach there again."
Williams' first coaching run at Grambling began in 1997 when he took over for legend Eddie Robinson. Williams' teams went 10-2 in 2000, 11-1 in 2001 and won the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship both years.
He left Grambling for an executive position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2004.
During his four seasons as starting quarterback at Grambling, the Tigers went 35-5 overall.
Williams' son, D.J. Williams, has also committed to Grambling.
A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.
