Crowell carries Alabama St. past Alcorn St. 49-30
Isaiah Crowell ran for 136 yards and four touchdowns to carry Alabama State past Alcorn State 49-30 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday night.
Crowell had three touchdowns and 99 yards as the Hornets (3-2, 2-2 SAC) opened a 28-7 lead at the half. Then Leland Baker had a sack, forced fumble and recovery on the first play of the third quarter with Crowell scoring on a 1-yard run on the next play. Alabama State forced four turnovers.
Daniel Duhart hit Brandon Barnes for an 8-yard score on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 42-7.
The Braves (3-2, 2-1) never got back in the game but John Gibbs threw two of his three touchdown passes to Jordan Payne in the fourth quarter and Tavoris Doss returned a punt 96 yards with 2:59 remaining. Alcorn State tacked on a field goal on the final play.
