Former spartan earns ncaa football honor: Former De La Salle quarterback

Blake Wayne, now at Fordham, was named NCAA FCS honorable mention quarterback performer of the week. He became the first Fordham quarterback to ever rush for more than 100 yards in a game, finishing with 108 on 20 carries in a 36-31 loss to Holy Cross on Oct. 2. Wayne also threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

East Bay

five locals tabbed for world championships: Five swimmers with East Bay ties have been selected to represent Team USA at the 2010 FINA Short Course World Championships in Dubai in December.

Piedmont

rookie siegelman earns ivy league honor:

Mika Siegelman, a Brown freshman originally from Piedmont and Head-Royce, was named the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week in girls soccer.

Siegelman had a 35-yard goal on a free kick in a 3-2 win over UMass. She also converted a penalty kick in a loss to Dartmouth.

Pittsburg

softball's lawrIE in town for clinic:

Danielle Lawrie, the 2009 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, is one of three high-profile instructors at the upcoming East Bay Vipers softball clinic. Lawrie, her former Washington teammate

Kris Zacher will all be on hand to help local girls hone their skills.

new bike facility opens in pittsburg: A new bike training facility, designed and built by Orinda native

Elliott Taylor and

Rann Valdez, opened Oct. 3.

Bailey Bike Park consists of dual slalom, giant slalom, cycle cross (CX) and endurance tracks, with BMX, pump tracks and a half pipe on the way. Several California universities competed on the track's opening day.
