Colorado signs WR to replace Paul Richardson
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) Mike MacIntyre's second class of recruits at Colorado includes wide receiver Shay Fields, whom he compares to NFL-bound Paul Richardson, nine other California kids - and his own son, Jay, a multi-talented athlete who chose the Buffaloes over Wyoming.
Jay MacIntyre rushed for 696 yards and 14 touchdowns and threw for 986 yards and 12 TDs as a senior at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colo.
He also had six touchdown returns on special teams and broke up 16 passes at cornerback to go with three interceptions, one of which was a pick-6.
Unlike former Buffs coach Dan Hawkins, whose son, Cody, played quarterback for him at CU - which harmed his recruitment of quarterbacks - MacIntyre's son won't play quarterback for the Buffaloes.
He's listed as an ''athlete.''
The Buffaloes are losing their best player, Richardson, who set 20 school receiving records and decided to go pro after his junior season, when he caught 83 passes for 1,343 yards and 10 touchdowns.
''With Paul Richardson leaving, we were trying to find a guy or two that could run like Paul,'' MacIntyre said. ''We definitely feel like we found one with Shay Fields.''
Colorado's class includes just one quarterback, Cade Apsay of Canyon Country, Calif., even though the Buffs are thin there following Connor Wood's decision to give up the sport and focus on academics, leaving them with two scholarship QBs for spring ball, starter Sefo Liufau and Jordan Gehrke.
With eight running backs already in the mix, MacIntyre didn't add more in this year's class, which included 10 recruits from California, four from Colorado, two from Texas, two from Utah and one from Hawaii.

COLORADO
National rankings (Rivals 64; Scout 72).
Best in class: WR Shay Fields, Bellflower, Calif.
Best of the rest: TE Dylan Keeney, Granite Bay, Calif., DE Terran Hasselbach, Parker, Colo.
Late addition: ATH Jay MacIntyre, Boulder, Colo.
One that got away: OL Elijah Rodriguez, Houston.
NOTE: DE Terran Hasselbach, a 6-foot-1, 235-pounder from Regis High School in Parker, Colo., is the son of former Denver Broncos DL Harald Hasselbach. Terran had 11 sacks, 35 hurries, four forced fumbles and three pass breakups as a senior - his only year of high school football. He was in a near-fatal car accident with his father right before the start of the freshman football season in 2010 and wasn't cleared until his junior year, but a fluke shoulder injury sidelined him until his senior season.
