Clemson Football vs SC State: What should the spread be?

There is no spread placed on Clemson football’s match-up with SC State, but if we were to create one, what would it be?

There is no spread placed on Clemson football’s game against SC State for obvious reasons.

Vegas does not put odds on College Football games featuring FCS opponents against FBS opponents.

But, what if we put ourselves in the shoes of the oddsmakers?

Where would the line fall?

What would the over/under be?

Let’s take a look at Clemson football’s game as if we were the oddsmakers for this one and create a spread for this match-up- for entertainment purposes only.

Opening Line:

Vegas always opens with a line and then balances the line out after bets start to be placed, they adjust it accordingly.

If I were to place a spread on a game, I would have to look at what the two teams have done thus far and take into account who is the home team.

In this case, Clemson football has underperformed in both of its outings and did not cover the spread against Auburn (-7.5) or against Troy (-36.5).

SC State, however, has lost games at UCF (38-0) and at Louisiana Tech (53-24).

If Central Florida can beat SC State by 38, you’d have to believe that Clemson football can do the same thing at home plus about 7 points.

For those of you keeping score, that means that we would have Clemson -45 to open the game, but just to make it difficult: Let’s go a little lower and hit 43.5.

Spread: Clemson -42.5

    Over/Under:

Now that we have a spread, we can work on an Over/Under.

Clemson’s offense has not looked good the last two weeks and SC State hasn’t scored a lot of points either. As a matter of fact, the Bulldogs were shutout by UCF just two weeks ago.

I’d imagine the Tigers score somewhere in the 40-50s range and SC State scores somewhere between 10-20.

If we go with these numbers, you get an over/under of about 63.5. Could the two combine for more than that? Could they combine for less? I think it’s a pretty solid number.

    Over/Under: 63.5

So, what’s your thoughts, Clemson football fans?
