CINCINNATI (AP) Gunner Kiel hurt his ribs on the last play of the first half and went for X-rays, sidelining him for the rest of a game against Memphis on Saturday night.

The Bearcats quarterback was hit on his lower right side by linebacker Tank Jakes as he threw a desperation pass. The pass fell incomplete, and Kiel lay on his back for several minutes while doctors checked him. He walked off slowly, favoring the right side.

X-rays were negative but Kiel was held out for the rest of the game. Munchie Legaux took over and got his first significant playing time since his comeback from a gruesome injury to his left knee last season.

Kiel was 11 of 27 for 216 yards with a touchdown, an interception, a fumble and two sacks. Kiel threw an 80-yard touchdown pass - his 15th in four games - on the opening play, then had a tough time as the Tigers pulled ahead 27-7 at halftime.
