Christian McCaffrey strengthens Heisman campaign by destroying UW

Leonard Fournette should watch his back. The LSU star has some company atop the Heisman Trophy watch list.

Stanford sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey is squarely in the Heisman conversation after his fifth-consecutive monster performance. Against Washington on Saturday night in Palo Alto, McCaffrey gained 300 all-purpose yards (109 rushing, 112 receiving, 79 kick return) and scored two touchdowns in Stanford's 31-14 win, his fifth straight game with at least 249 all-purpose yards.

Through five Pac-12 games, McCaffrey has gained 249, 303, 260, 369 and now 300 all-purpose yards. The sophomore sensation has gained 669 all-purpose yards and scored six touchdowns over Stanford's past two games.

McCaffrey is now averaging 259 all-purpose yards per game, which keeps him on pace to break Barry Sanders' single-season all-purpose yardage record. In Pac-12 play, the sophomore sensation is averaging 296 all-purpose yards per game. 

Stanford is the only Pac-12 team without a loss in conference play. The Cardinal head to Washington State next Saturday in a game that has major Pac-12 North implications.
