Charleston Southern holds off Coastal Carolina 33-25

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Austin Brown threw for two touchdowns and the Charleston Southern defense stopped Coastal Carolina on downs at the 8-yard line with 27 seconds left for a 33-25 win on Saturday night.

The Chanticleers, the top-ranked FCS team, took over on their 30 with 5:28 to play and used 19 plays before coming up short against the Buccaneers (7-1, 4-0 Big South Conference) when a final pass by Alex Ross sailed out of bounds on fourth-and-4.

Brown, who completed 13 of 21 for 252 yards, connected with Darius Hammond for 15 yards and Nathan Perera for 13 in the second quarter to give the Buccaneers, who won their sixth-straight, a 27-15 lead at the half.

Coastal Carolina (7-1, 2-1) pulled within 33-25 when De'Angelo Henderson increased his FCS record streak to 22 straight games with a touchdown, scoring on a 9-yard run with 9:03 to play.

Ross finished with 28 of 46 for 274 yards.
