CFB AM: FSU fans take shot at Irish with awesome Winston joke

If you haven’t heard, it’s Notre Dame-Florida State week.
And if you haven’t heard, FSU QB Jameis Winston has been in the news quite a bit.
A #BlameJameis hashtag sprouted on Twitter, and fans of all teams, including the Irish, are taking their turns sending verbal swats at Winston.
Well, some creative FSU students might have just put an end to all of that when it comes to Notre Dame fans at least.
Folks, this is what you call a trash talk walk-off.

Nothing else needs to be said. Game on in Tallahassee come Saturday night.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. Bo Jackson is the latest person to sound off on Jameis Winston, and he had some strong words for the Florida State QB. "I'm the type of person, I will go out of my way to help anybody," Jackson said on the Jim Rome show. "Normally, I don't like giving people advice if I haven't been down that road myself. But if I give you advice on something that I know more about than you by just falling out of bed in the morning, if you can't take that advice and learn from it, then I've got nothing else to do with the situation. You're on your own."
Do you think Jimbo Fisher has one of those paper chains up in his house, where you tear one off each down to count down to something? I bet he’s got one for when Winston has to declare for the NFL Draft.
2. The heat is turning up on Michigan AD Dave Brandon, as the board of regents plans to discuss him and head coach Brady Hoke at a meeting today. “The system failed,” said one regent in regards to the Minnesota game when QB Shane Morris was allowed to stay in the game after taking a hit that left him visibly woozy. It’s widely expected that both Brandon and Hoke will be gone after 2014, but we’ll see how exactly it plays out. It would make organizational sense to put a new athletic director in place first and then have that person conduct a search for the new head coach.
But, as of today, both men still have their jobs and Michigan still has games to play.
3. We have two football games tonight for your viewing: Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh (7:30 ET, ESPN) and No. 20 Utah at Oregon State (10 p.m., Pac-12 Network). The late game should be a lot of fun, with the Utes trying to keep pace in the Pac-12 South and the Beavers doing the same in the North. Both teams are 4-1 (1-1).
THREE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
1. Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott has one more year of eligibility left after 2014, but he said he’ll go to the NFL if he gets an early-round grade. “One of the worst things is not going, getting injured and hurting your situation,” Prescott told SI.com. “I wouldn’t risk it if I had a chance to go first round. I’m graduating college, and my time here will be done, I’ll do exactly what I wanted to do … When the time came and there’s an option, first, second or third round and I had the season I wanted to have, I’d go.”
Prescott will be an interesting test for NFL scouts, because he hasn’t played a lot of football in college and could use another year of development (as most can). But he’s a more gifted passer than most running QBs, and he’s the kind of physical, dual-threat type who could succeed in today’s NFL. Popping him early in the 2015 NFL Draft would be a bet on the package of physical ability he brings. I hope he finishes off a great season and returns, because it’d be nice to see Miss. State sustain a high level of success. But if he wants to begin his pro career and help his family financially, of course that’s his choice and should never be questioned.
2. A little update on Georgia running back Todd Gurley from UGA writer Marc Weiszer:
3. USC will wear metallic helmets with chrome face masks as a “modern update to the classic look” for their Homecoming game. I like this – feels fresh but still true to an iconic brand.

THREE THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
1. Comedian Tosh.O destroyed Lane Kiffin in a skit on his show the other night – it’s hilarious but quite salty (WARNING: Not appropriate for kids or most work settings).
2. In Wednesday’s CFB AM, we gave some love to Michigan WR Dennis Norfleet, who dances to George Clinton’s “Atomic Dog” to fire up the crowd before returning punts. How does Clinton feel about this? Floor is yours, Mr. Clinton:

3. Dana Holgorsen -- the head coach who, science has proven, runs on Red Bull – keeps a fridge full of the energy drinks on WVU’ sideline.

TAKE A LONG WEEKEND
Programming note: We’re talking a couple days off from CFB AM starting on Friday.
I’m traveling today to North Carolina to celebrate a buddy’s nuptials this weekend and will spend a day or two in Chapel Hill catching up with old friends and then a day for the wedding, so there won’t be any CFB AM on Friday or Sunday. It will feel just as weird not writing it as it will not reading it, but I’m confident your weekends will still be splendid.
CFB AM will be back in full force at the regularly scheduled time on Monday.
LASTLY
* Cool college football fan map from New York Times that shows which team’s fan base dominates each state. More people in New Jersey root for Penn State than Rutgers.
* Oklahoma sent a recruit a box of Wheaties with his face on it, because nothing lures a teenage kid home like free breakfast cereal.
* Here’s a great piece of football pop culture: College GameDay’s first road show was on Nov. 13, 1993 in South Bend to preview the Notre Dame-Florida State game. With those teams squaring off again this weekend, take a look back at some of the highlights of the show with young Chris Fowler and younger Lee Corso.
Have a great Thursday, all, and enjoy Week 8. We’ll be back at it with CFB AM on Monday. As always, I appreciate you all reading CFB AM and making it a fun thing to do six mornings a week.
