University at Buffalo quarterback Alex Zordich will miss the team's final two games with a broken rib.

Coach Jeff Quinn said on Monday that Jerry Davis will likely start when Buffalo (2-8, 1-5 Mid-American Conference) play Eastern Michigan (1-5, 1-9) in the Bulls' home finale Saturday.

Zordich, who was starting his fourth game after Davis was benched, was hurt on a hard hit at the end of an 11-yard run late in the first quarter of a 20-3 loss to Ball State on Friday. The freshman has completed 39 of 94 passes for 428 yards, with a touchdown and six interceptions.

Davis had won the starting job following a three-way offseason competition to replace Zach Maynard, who left the program shortly after Quinn was hired in December to replace Turner Gill.

Buffalo went 2-4 with Davis starting. He lost the job after a 45-14 loss at Northern Illinois on Oct. 16. He's thrown for 1,263 yards, with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Quinn acknowledged confidence is an issue for Davis.

''It looks that way to me. And talking to him, he's obviously very disappointed,'' Quinn said during a teleconference with reporters. ''He feels responsible. He cares deeply about what's going on and he knows his performance did not factor into the level that he's capable of playing.''

It's up to Quinn to rebuild the player's confidence.

''We just have to keep supporting him. He's our guy,'' he said.

The Bulls have struggled particularly on offense as they become accustomed to the up-tempo spread offense Quinn helped design as longtime assistant to first-year Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly.

Buffalo's averaging just 13.9 points a game and has been outscored 162-42 in losing its past five.

Alex Dennison will go back to being the backup quarterback after being converted into a tight end earlier this season.
