Bowling Green tops Buffalo 28-16

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Matt Johnson threw for a touchdown and ran for another, Donovan Wilson and Ronnie Moore each ran in scores and Bowling Green held off a late surge by Buffalo to win 28-22 in Saturday's Mid-American Conference opener.

Johnson, who threw for more than 400 yards in each of his first four games this season - a school record - was 23 of 29 for 324 yards. He scored on a 10-yard run and threw a 12-yard TD pass to Roger Lewis, who had 10 catches for 201 yards.

Wilson scored on a 1-yard run on the Falcon's opening drive and Bowling Green (3-2, 1-0) led 28-9 after Moore's 7-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Buffalo outscored Bowling Green 16-7 in the second half, with Joe Licata hitting Ron Willoughby with a 5-yard TD pass and Jordan Johnson scoring on a 1-yard run. Adam Mitcheson kicked three field goals for the Bulls (2-3, 0-1).
