WACO, Texas (AP) Baylor running back Johnny Jefferson has sore ribs from a car accident after already being out of practice because of a foot injury.
Acting head coach Jim Grobe said Monday that Jefferson will ''be out for a while.'' The coach said the biggest issue was Jefferson's foot, which was stepped on early in preseason practice, and did not specify whether the running back would be ready for the Sept. 2 season opener against Northwestern State.
Jefferson, a junior, is one of two 1,000-yard rushers returning for the Bears.

Grobe said the other, senior Shock Linwood, has looked solid in preseason practice. Linwood has consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, but missed the Russell Athletic Bowl and spring practice after suffering a broken foot.
