That feeling Baylor coach Art Briles had Wednesday was certainly understandable after back-to-back Big 12 titles and another solid recruiting class for the Bears.
''I'm borderline giddy honestly,'' Briles said when announcing a class of 20 signees. ''It's been a good day.''
The class of 20 signees included Baylor's expected future quarterback, dual-threat Jarrett Stidham from Stephenville, the high school where Briles won four Texas state championships as coach in the 1990s.
Stidham, a 6-foot-3, 195-pounder, is one of the four signees already enrolled at Baylor and who will be able to take part in spring practice. He had combined for 3,903 total yards and 50 touchdowns as a senior.
''This guy is real-time deal, he gives us a chance to continue our quarterback tradition,'' Briles said. ''The thing I've gotten to really appreciate about him since he's been on campus is his competitive nature, and his passion that he has to be great. That gives you the opportunity to be great if you have the passion to be great, and you can back it up with talent. He has the talent to back it up.''
The final weekend of recruiting for Baylor coaches was spent recruiting 2016 seniors and looking at sophomores who could be part of the 2017 class.
For the second year in a row, Baylor's class was pretty much in place long before signing day. And Briles believes this class, his eighth with the Bears, could be the best so far.
''It's where our program is today compared to where it was six years ago,'' Briles said. ''We're filling in spots with guys that fit the needs for us that are talented. That's the big key. I think as we continue to progress, it will continue to progress in that standpoint also.''

One that got away: Khalil Haughton, db, from Waco's Midway High. While two of his prep teammates are staying home to play at Baylor, Haughton chose Oklahoma over the Bears.
