EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) Former Northwestern football coach Gary Barnett will be inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Barnett arrived at Northwestern in 1992 and built a program that won back-to-back Big Ten championships. The 1995 team, with current coach Pat Fitzgerald then a star linebacker, went 10-2 and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl.

The Wildcats lost to USC in their first bowl since the 1949 Rose Bowl. The 1996 team shared the conference championship and played in the Florida Citrus Bowl. But the program declined, going winless in Big Ten play in 1998.

Barnett then left for Colorado after leading the Wildcats to a 35-45-1 record in seven years. He will be inducted Sept. 25 with four athletes and a longtime staffer.
