Badgers RB Corey Clement to have surgery; out four-six weeks
Wisconsin Badgers running back Corey Clement was expected to replace All-American Melvin Gordon as the team's bell-cow running back in 2015.
That dream of that Badgers fans have has now officially been put on hold. According to a release sent out by the school, the running back will be out 4-6 weeks after undergoing sports hernia surgery
Head coach Paul Chryst had this to say:
"Corey has been dealing with some issues since before the Alabama game," Chryst said. "He has been undergoing treatment since that time and has seen some progress but not to the point where our medical staff is satisfied. So after consultation with our medical staff, Corey has decided to have surgery for a sports hernia. I feel bad for Corey that this is impacting his season because I know how hard he works and how important this football team is to him. We are very confident that he will make a full recovery after the surgery and I know he will attack his rehab so he can get back on the field as soon as he can."
Clement will potentially miss games against Hawaii, Iowa, Nebraska, Purdue, Illinois, and Rutgers before hopefully coming back for the stretch run of the season. The good news for Wisconsin is that other running backs have had to fill the void so far this season and have game experience.
The last time the Badgers failed to have a 1,000 yard rusher was way back in 2004. That streak seems in real jeopardy. This is a critical blow to the Badgers' best offensive player and they will have to get creative to replace his productivity.
