ASU Football: ASU vs. UTSA Rapid Reaction

The Sun Devils were able to earn the victory on the road against the Roadrunners to improve to 3-0 on the season.

While they did earn the win, there were definitely some reasons for concern and some reasons to be excited for what ASU has to offer moving forward. Here is my initial reaction.

1. Manny Wilkins is still learning how to be the leader of the offensive unit.

Wilkins was less than stellar tonight. While he did have some nice moments through the air, most of those moments were more because of nice catches by the receivers rather than because of a great throw. Tonight was a reminder that Wilkins is still a young quarterback who hasn’t fully learned what it required of a starting quarterback. There were moments in this game where he looked sloppy and you could tell that being on the road hit him a lot harder than more experienced players like Demario Richard or Kalen Ballage.

2. N’Keal Harry is going to be the top target by the end of the season

Thank you for everything you have done for the ASU football program Tim White, but it is time to face facts. You are graduating and it is time to pass the torch, luckily Harry is the perfect guy to carry that torch. Harry was great tonight, and as a true freshman he is only going to get better. By the end of the season Harry will be a big problem for the opposing secondary and he will experience the acknowledgment of greatness that comes with being double covered all game.

    3. ASU’s defense only likes to play in the fourth quarter

The defense is pretty much the same as last season, terrible. The only thing that has changed is that this season the defense actually shows up in the fourth quarter, compared to last season when the defense completely disappeared at the end of the game. Head coach Todd Graham will need to get something figured out with his defense or else in-conference play isn’t going to be too friendly to the Sun Devils
