A person familiar with the situation says Tennessee has offered its open athletic director's job to Alabama assistant athletic director Dave Hart.

Tennessee has been looking for a new athletic director since Mike Hamilton resigned in June in the wake of a lengthy NCAA investigation. The person spoke Thursday to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the offer had not been made public.

Hart did not immediately return a telephone message left by the AP, but Alabama said in a statement released Thursday night that Hart had talked with Tennessee officials and had no timeframe for when he would make a decision.

Hart has been executive director of athletics assisting Alabama athletic director Mal Moore since August 2008. He also has advised the Atlantic Coast Conference and was athletic director at Florida State for 13 years.
