AP source: LSU WR coach Gonzales joining Illinois
A person familiar with the move says LSU wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales has accepted the offensive coordinator's job at Illinois under new Illini coach Tim Beckman.
LSU announced Wednesday that Gonzales is leaving to take an assistant job in the Big Ten, but has not specified which school. The person who identified Illinois as Gonzales' destination told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Illinois has not announced the hiring.
The 41-year-old Gonzales joined LSU at the end of the 2009 season following a five-year stint on Urban Meyer's staff at Florida.
With a run-heavy offense, LSU ranked ninth in the Southeastern Conference in yards passing, but led the conference in passing efficiency, with a completion percentage of about 62 and 21 TDs against four interceptions.
