Greg Jenkins passed for a career-high 297 yards and three touchdowns as Alabama State defeated Alcorn State 31-23 Saturday night to remain the only unbeaten team in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
With the score tied 10-10 to start the second half, the Hornets (4-1, 4-0) scored on consecutive possessions.
Jenkins' 9-yard touchdown run made it 17-10 with 11:40 remaining in the third quarter and Nick Andrews' 16-yard touchdown catch made it 23-10 at the 6:13 mark.
After the Braves (1-4, 1-4) closed to 23-17 late in the third quarter, Andrews got behind the defense for a 39-yard scoring pass from Jenkins with 2:17 remaining in the game.
Andrews, who caught six passes for a career-high 185 yards, became Alabama State's all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 24, surpassing the 23 each for Reggie Brown and Horace Brooks.
Alcorn State's four losses have all come by eight points or less.
