Alabama Football: Johnathan Allen Named SEC Defensive Player of Week


Allen accounted for his second defensive touchdown of the season with a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter of a 33-14 Alabama football victory.
Alabama football defensive lineman Johnathan Allen was honored by the Southeastern Conference on Monday as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against No. 6 Texas A&M.
Allen accounted for his second defensive touchdown of the season with a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter of a 33-14 Crimson Tide victory. He made six tackles with three solo stops in the game.
Allen recorded his sixth sack of the season in the first quarter when he shed the block of the guard and vaulted over the running back to bring down Aggies’ quarterback Trevor Knight for an 8-yard loss. He notched a career-best four quarterback hurries to give him a team-high 10 for the season.
Allen also helped limit the Aggies top-ranked rushing offense to just 114 yards and the entire offense to just 278 yards and only 14 points.
On the season, Allen has totaled a team-high 10 quarterback hurries while ranking second in sacks with 6.0 (-53 yards). He has also added 6.5 tackles for a loss (-53 yards) as part of his 35 total tackles. Allen leads the defense with two touchdown scores, both fumble recoveries, and has two pass breakups to his name.
The league also honored LSU running back Leonard Fournette (offense), Kentucky kicker Austin MacGinnis (special teams), Kentucky running back Benny Snell (freshman), Auburn defensive lineman Montravius Adams (defensive line) , Auburn offensive lineman Alex Kozan (offensive line) and LSU center Ethan Pocic (offensive line).
Top-ranked Alabama football is off this week, returning to action Nov. 5 at LSU. The game time and television information has not yet been finalized.
