ACC Championship Game Officially Moving to Orlando

The ACC made official what has been expected for days and announced that they have moved the Football Championship game. The game was originally to be contested at Bank of America Field in Charlotte will now be played at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

The ACC pulled eight championships out of North Carolina due to the controversial HB2 bill that discriminates against the LGBT community. The NCAA announced earlier this month that they were pulling seven championships in six sports out of North Carolina.

The NCAA has precedence for moving events in the past. They have banned schools and venues from hosting events that have a nickname that insults or uses hostile or abusive Native American imagery, any school or city or state that displays the confederate flag or states that authorize legal sports gambling.

The ACC is going to have a pre-sale for the game at Camping World Stadium on October 5. People that previously bought tickets for this year’s game in Charlotte and Florida Citrus Sports members will have three days to purchase tickets. Tickets go on sale to the general public on October 10.

The Atlantic and Coastal division champions will have ticket allotments made available to them once they have clinched particular divisions. The ACC announced earlier this week that anyone who purchased tickets for Charlotte is entitled to a full refund. Refunds are expected to take five to seven days.

The change in venue is impactful beyond just the game. The ACC has scheduled the ACC night of legends, the ACC Champions tailgate and a fan 5K and kids mascot fun run.

The night of legends honors one legend from each ACC school. Clinton Portis was honored last season. The awards banquet also hands out the ACC football season awards.
