A look at the inspiring story of South Carolina safety Jordan Diggs
South Carolina safety Jordan Diggs has had a tough life. As detailed in this university production, the Fort Myers, Fla., native has endured an immense number of trials leading up to his time at South Carolina.
Diggs' father -- Shed -- was a player in Columbia during the 1980s. When Diggs was 12, Shed was arrested and sentenced to federal prison for 10 years.
In addition, a close family friend was gunned down on the back porch of Diggs' house. His mother also had to singlehandedly account for Diggs and his six siblings amid a poor local economy.
The safety ultimately made it to South Carolina -- living out a lifelong dream. In the process, he became an honor-roll student and an integral member of the South Carolina defense.
