Jermain Taylor is dropping out of the World Boxing Classic super middleweight tournament.

Taylor said Tuesday that he's taking some time off from the sport but will return at some point.

Taylor has lost four of his last five fights, three by knockout. He was hospitalized after his last defeat, a 12th-round knockout in October by Arthur Abraham as part of the Showtime-backed super middleweight tournament known as the Super Six.

Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins in 2005 to win the middleweight title and held it for two years.

Promoter Lou DiBella dropped Taylor last month over concerns about the former champion's health.
