NYSAC orders eye exam for Margarito
The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) announced Friday that Antonio Margaritoās right eye, severely injured in his 2010 bout with Manny Pacquiao, must be examined by one of their doctors before the fighter is granted a license to compete in New York.
With Margaritoās December 3 bout against Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden just about two weeks away and Margarito currently training in Mexico, tentative plans are being made to hold the event in another state in case the commission mandate canāt be met in time.
While Top Rank is still hopeful that their fighter can get the medical clearance needed, they are also exploring a possible move to Dallasā Cowboys Stadium as well as venues in Mississippi and New Jersey.
Margaritoās injuries, which included a broken right orbital bone and a cataract in the right eye resulting from the severe beating, were repaired last Spring. However, despite a green light from Margaritoās personal physician, the eye remained a cause for concern among NYSAC officials.
