Montiel returns against Cermeno June 25
Former three-division world champ Fernando Montiel (44-3-2, 34 KOs) will be returning to active duty June 25 at Estadio Banorte in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico against two-time former world title challenger Venezuela’s Nehomar Cermeño (20-3, 12 KOs).
Montiel will be looking to come back after February’s devastating second-round TKO loss to Nonito Donaire. Montiel has held world titles at flyweight, super flyweight and bantamweight over the course of nearly 15 years in the sport.
Cermeño recently dropped a split decision to Mexico’s Victor Terrazas in a January junior featherweight contest. The Venezuelan former interim titlist has been a fixture in the bantamweight rankings and is best known for dropping two close split-decisions losses to long-reigning WBA bantamweight champ Anselmo Moreno.
