A look at the result in the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas
There was a time where we thought the career of the great Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) was all said and done. After a win over Timothy Bradley following what was an embarrassment of an event against Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao had decided to call it quits. However, as we all really expected, the retirement didn’t last long and the Filipino star is returning to the ring on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
This time, Pacquiao will be squaring off against quite the formidable challenger in welterweight world champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs). For various reasons, there were some out there who didn’t want to see this particular fight, but make no mistake about it, the powerful Vargas presents a good challenge for the 37-year-old Pacquiao. There’s a good chance that this bout won’t be a walk in the park by any means.
For Vargas, this is the first defense of his welterweight title, and if he can get a win over someone with the name recognition and fame that Pacquiao carries, he will certainly become one of the more well-known names in the sport of boxing.
The entire Pacquiao-Vargas event will start at 9 PM ET with the undercard, with the main event going on after the first three fights come to a close. When Manny Pacquiao and Jessie Vargas do step into the ring with one another, you can follow along with some of the highlights and results below. It is sort of remarkable. Although we didn’t expect Pacquiao’s retirement to last at all, to see him back and fighting for a world title at 37 years of age is something to behold. After the embarrassment that was the long-awaited showdown with Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao has a chance here to put some good graces back into his name with a world title win.
At the same time, though, Vargas is looking to make even more of a name for himself than he already has, which makes this battle all the more intriguing.
