While many are dreaming lately of Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather becoming a reality, Dana White is here to burst your bubble

Last week the world of combat sports blew up with the news that Conor McGregor was issued a boxing license in the state of California. Of course, the joy that was brought to many was the idea that the dream fight between the Irish UFC star and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather could very well happen.

While the thought definitely is one of the more intriguing in all of sports, the fact of the matter is that there are a lot more hoops to jump through to help this take place. Mainly, there’s the fact that McGregor is under UFC contract which will not allow him to box.

Just to drive that point home, UFC President Dana White, in an interview with Yahoo Sports, made it pretty crystal clear that the dream fight will not become a reality.

“It ain’t happening,” White said to Yahoo Sports.

As much as we all would love to see this –yours truly here included– it’s really something that’s probably not even close to a possibility at the moment. Without a doubt, McGregor is the unquestioned face of the UFC brand, a brand that just keeps growing in popularity. There is no way whatsoever that the people who make the decisions in the company are going to let this take place as long as the UFC champ is under that contract.

So for the time being, we’re all just going to have to continue to sit back and wonder what would happen if these two mega stars were to get into the ring and throw hands.
